OUR FEES

Our approach to fees

We believe clients should always understand how legal fees work before instructing us. From the outset, we provide clear estimates, explain your funding options, and keep you updated throughout your case. Every client and every matter is different, so our advice is tailored to your circumstances.

At your first appointment, we will discuss your funding options and assess any potential legal aid eligibility.

OUR FEES

Types of fees we use

  • Legal Aid

We are registered to provide civil, criminal and children’s legal aid. Eligibility depends on both your financial circumstances and the merits of your case. We will assess this at your first appointment. You can also check potential eligibility using the Scottish Legal Aid Board’s online calculator https://www.slab.org.uk/new-to-legal-aid/eligibility-estimators/

  • Fixed fees

For certain types of work, we offer fixed fees agreed in advance. These cover specific tasks and provide certainty about cost. Examples include:

    • Summary Criminal Work – £1,800.00 (£1,500 + VAT)

    • Simplified Divorce – £495.00 (£282.50 + VAT + plus court fees)

    • Simple Minute of Agreement – £1800.00 (£1,500 + VAT)

    • Will – £180.00 (£150 + VAT)

    • Power of Attorney – £519.00 (£350 + VAT +registration fee)

    • Will & Power of Attorney – £639.00 (£450 + VAT + registration fee)

    • Mirror Wills – £300.00 (£250 + VAT)

    • Couple’s Power of Attorney – £972.00 (£650 + VAT + registration fee)

    • Family Protection Package (2 Wills & 2 POA) – £1,195.00 (£830.83 + VAT + registration fees)

The registration fee for Powers of Attorney is currently £99.00, set by the Office of the Public Guardian but is increased from time to time.

We will always explain what is included in a fixed fee and highlight anything that may incur additional cost.

  • Hourly Rates

Some matters, particularly those that are more complex or unpredictable, are charged at an hourly rate.

Our current rate is £240 + VAT per hour.

This rate applies uniformly across the firm. You will not be charged a higher rate for work carried out by Partners or senior solicitors; all work is charged at the same hourly rate.

You will be told at your initial appointment if your case will be charged at an hourly rate, along with a rough estimate of the likely cost. We issue regular invoices so you can keep track of your spending and avoid large, unexpected bills.

  • Outlays (Additional Costs)

Some cases involve costs payable to third parties. These may include:

    • Court fees

    • Sheriff Officer fees

    • Expert or medical reports

    • Counsel’s fees

    • Travel expenses (where required)

We will always advise you of any outlays before they are incurred.
